In 1979 J.B. Sarver established Acadiana Medical Transportation operating two handicapped accessible vans which provided non-emergency medical transportation services. This service was made available to Nursing Homes, LA Medicaid Recipients, and individuals needing assistance in the Acadiana Area.
In 1987 Jamie Sarver the son of J.B. Sarver took over Operations as Executive Director and Ownership with his three brothers. Jamie Sarver has been instrumental in the growing Business. In 2002 Jamie Sarver acquired a contract thru the Lafayette Consolidated Government to provide Night Owl bus service within Lafayette City Limits.
In 2003, Jamie Sarver / Acadiana Transit was awarded the Para-Transit Contract through Lafayette Consolidated Government. This service provide bus service to those individuals who are unable to use the regular fixed route (LTS) service due to Special Needs / Disability.
Subsequently these contracts prompted the company to change its name from Acadiana Medical Transportation to Acadiana Transit.
